Terry Richardson

So recently i have been busy writing an essay on a photographer that inspires me for this i decided to choose Terry Richardson as he has been in the news recently because the controversy with Miley Cyrus and her video and images which he directed and took. I also chose him as i love his work but i have never really known a lot about his personal life etc. So after doing research i learnt he is actually quite a strange but simple man when it comes to photography. He is strange in the sense he makes every image provocative but simple as in he uses plain backgrounds instead of all these fancy backdrops like most photographers.

To go along with the essay i had to recreate an image in the style of his below is the image i chose to recreate:

I recreated this image as i found it one of his most eye catching and different images as it isn't provocative but it stands out among the rest because of the use of hand gestures.

Below is my recreation of this image:

As you can see the image is similar but different i wanted to recreate it but not entirely copy his image this is why i decided to shoot my image landscape and crop it close to the models upper half.

Anita Corbin

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to have a talk from a well known portrait photographer known as Anita Corbin. It was great being able to understand how she goes about her shoots and what inspires hers and how she started out and branched out into this well respected photographer that she is.

She talked to us about her most recent project which is all about the first women to ever do things such as race in the grand national or play at a gold club. It was amazing to see that she can take such a simple thing and make it into a huge project which not only has her being recognized over in the UK but is being shown all over the world even in the USA.

Before finishing her talk she set us a project to take an image of someone inspirational who we know or works in the community, I decided to use my grandma as not only has she had cancer three times and beating it but she is now living with one and  half lung and still carries on her normal day to day activities. You can see the image below:

Past Work

In the past i have completed a variety of projects so thought i would base this post around showing off some of my older bits of work:

The image above is one of the first ever images i took on location and still to this day it is one of my all time favorite images that i have taking.
The image above was taking during a mini Halloween project during my foundation diploma course. The reason i love this photo is the atmosphere it creates.
The image above is more recent to the over two as this was taking for the shoe project which was giving last year.
The final image is an image taking for my first project for my first year of my degree it was called the hat project i loved this image as it shows the hat subtly.

Life In Living Color

So last night i had the pleasure of conversing with a photographer from down London who's work i have been following for a few months now. I admire his work because he uses more natural light than controlled light but his images have such an amazing feel to them. During the conversation he invited me to do a collaboration with him if i'm ever down London and also asked if he could steal some of the models i had used in some of my personal work to which i happily agreed to get in contact with for him. He also has a calendar coming out for next year and stated he has a huge project coming up next year so keep your eye peeled for more from him.

It was great to talk to someone else and get tips from him about using male models as he finds it easier to use males than females whereas i'm the opposite so it was nice to get tips from him.

Feel free to check out his website he has some amazing images;

Starting a Portfolio

So last week i had the pleasure to take the first photographs of a young boy looking to start is portfolio. It was such a big thing for me to be the first photographer to take images for this person as to me it meant that any other person getting in contact with the boy will see my images. The shoot went great and with him just being 16 his mam was invited along to the shoot to make sure everything was legit and they both had such a great time and gave me so much praise for the finished shots. Take a look below at some of the shots from the shoot and feel free to see the rest by clicking the link provided;

Between Two Evils

So this week i have eventually completed one of the photo shoots i have been dying to do since the start of this year. It all began when i was on twitter and a singer, Aubrey O'Day, who i like posted a photo of an image taking from the artwork for her debut album. This image embedded itself in my head for days, weeks, months even as it stood out compared to all the other album artworks being shown around that time. So after many months of trying and trying i finally found a model willing to give it a go and i must say it was a huge success the images turned out great and some people have commented saying they're similar or even better than the original. So please take a look at the image that inspired me and then one of my final images:

Mark Taylor Visit

On Tuesday 12th November we had the pleasure of visiting Mark Taylor at his studio.

He sat us down and spoke about how he started out at Newcastle College and how he began his journey to break out in the industry all through doing assistance work with photographers. He also showed us his portfolio and explained why he shot each image, why they made it into his portfolio and how he lit and shot the image.

The visit was great as it helped me to understand the industry a little more and showed me that to get noticed it is best if you work at all areas unless wanting to specialize in one are then a move to London would be the bets idea.

Shadow Of A Doubt

So i was browsing the internet today and came across a set of images based around the film Shadow Of A Doubt for complex magazine. I came across the images as they feature the singer/actress Ariana Grande who i like to keep up to date with as i'm a big fan of hers and they are absolutely stunning. The best thing about it is that for a project last year i had to work in a group and produce a film still from a Hitchcock film and i got giving that exact same film.

It's funny to compare the images to each other as it shows what i could potentially achieve in the future as i believe my images worked just as strongly as the ones featured in the magazine even though my group didn't have the make up artist and stylist like the shoot for Ariana would have.

Take a look at my groups images below:

And the complex images shot by Gavin Bond:

First Post

So I've decided to create a blog to keep everyone up to date with what is going on with my University work and my own personal photography work. I will try to update this blog each week with images of past and present images as well as information on projects, shoots, how they went, how i managed my time, my strengths and weaknesses, images that inspire me as well as the photographer if known and tips and helpful information for people thinking of trying out photography.

I know this post is a bit blergh but i guess i have to give a basic overview post but now that is out the way please feel free to keep checking my blog and keeping up with what i'm doing.

Thanks

Scott
